Establishing An African Union Credit Rating Agency
We partnered with the African Union to conduct a groundbreaking feasibility study for the establishment of a pan-African credit rating agency, an initiative aimed at reshaping Africa’s financial landscape and promoting financial sovereignty across the continent. This comprehensive study involved an in-depth survey of key stakeholders, including ministries of finance, central banks, international investors, commercial banks, investment banks, hedge funds, and insurance companies. The aim was to assess the viability, challenges, and opportunities for creating a credit rating agency that would address Africa's unique economic realities and provide a credible alternative to traditional global rating agencies.
Upon completing the study, we presented our key findings at the African Union's 4th Specialized Technical Committee (STC) on Monetary Planning and Integration—Africa's largest economic event. This high-profile platform enabled us to engage directly with policymakers, economic leaders, and financial experts from across the continent, fostering meaningful dialogue on the role of a regional credit rating agency in strengthening Africa’s financial autonomy and improving access to capital markets.
In collaboration with the United Nations, we also conducted a roadshow to present the findings to individual member states, ensuring that the study’s insights reached the highest levels of decision-making. These tailored engagements allowed us to address country-specific concerns, highlight the strategic importance of the proposed agency, and garner support for the initiative.
This project not only showcased our expertise in credit rating advisory and large-scale stakeholder engagements but also underscored our commitment to advancing innovative solutions that empower African economies. By delivering actionable insights and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders, we contributed to laying the groundwork for a transformative institution with the potential to redefine Africa’s financial narrative on the global stage. The project has reached an advanced stage and is now being implemented.
